This course is intended for graduate students who wish to become university faculty or work as TFs in the future. There are no special pre-requirements, but there are many assignments, so students should be able to secure their own time.
In addition, to implement short-time mock lesson called micro-teaching, the maximum number of applicants is set to 14. So when there are more applicants than that number, considering the situation of the applicants, those who can attend the class will be selected. You will be on the priority list the next time if you are not selected.
University faculty members play important roles not only as researchers but also as educators. On the other hand, unlike research skills, graduate students have few opportunities to learn instructional skills required for a job at a university. Hence, in this course, the basic theory and method for designing university courses will be introduced.
When designing university courses, it is important to consider the following three stages: "course design," "course delivery," "course assessment." In this course, participants will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to develop course syllabus; to deliver materials in the class; to assess student learning outcomes.
Therefore, I would like students who aim to be future university faculty members to learn this practical knowledge and skills.

【In-class learning】
In the course, I will first explain the situation in Japan and overseas surrounding university education. After that, we will learn course design.
In the classroom, we will exchange opinions with other students about the learning objectives, assessments, syllabus, and performance in micro-teaching. Although this course includes many presentations and discussions, it is also one of the active learning exercises required for future university education. I will firmly support you so that you can efficiently participate in the classroom activities, so please do not be afraid to join.

【On-demand class】
For students’ convenience and learning effectiveness, some sessions are prepared in on-demand format. Students need to finish watching these videos before coming to next class.

【Out-of-class learning】
Making a course design is a very time-consuming task. So it cannot be all done within one lesson time. It may be necessary to relearn the knowledge of the specialized field. Therefore, out-of-class learning is required. I hope this “relearning” is intellectually interesting work.
I use PowerPoint slides for an explanation. All the slides will be given as a handout. After class, we will also hand it over as data.
