授業概要
The Renewable and Sustainable Energy Systems course provides a graduate-level understanding of the economic, environmental and technical issues behind various renewable energy sources. It also examines the issues involved in the integration of various renewable energy sources and their economics for heat, power, and transportation needs. Based on the technical and sustainability challenges, the future outlook for each of the sources and systems is discussed.

(内容)
This course includes two parts:
-lecture sessions: there would be six lectures on introducing the most important renewable energy resources and the sustainability-related challenges for harnessing them.
-Hands-on-exercise sessions: there would be two sessions on case study feasibility analysis of real renewable energy systems that provide training for HOMER Pro software, the global standard tool developed at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), for simulating renewable energy systems.
Through a combination of lectures and hands-on exercises, the participants will try to practice key policies and scenarios of renewable and sustainable energy systems and extremely learn how to develop their strategic plans.
Learning in this course is facilitated through lecture, readings, discussion, in-class exercises, including:
Discussions: Each lesson will have discussion questions clearly identified in the lesson content. Students are to comment on these questions to earn their participation grade for this category.
Quizzes: Each lesson will have an associated quiz that is due upon its completion.
Homework Assignments: There will be 2 HW assignments throughout the semester.

• Describe the principles of operation of the broad spectrum of renewable energy technologies.
• Analyze energy technologies from a systems perspective.
• Articulate the technical and economic challenges for each of the renewable sources and
• Discuss financial, technical and sustainability issues involved in the integration of renewable energy systems

Week 5: Sustainable development and sustainability concepts (critical challenges for a sustainable energy future)
Week 6: Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems (HRES)
Week 7-8: Case study feasibility analysis of real renewable energy systems using HOMER Pro
