履修条件		「レトリック１」を事前に履修していることが望ましいですが、必須ではありません。 The Rhetoric 1 course held in Japanese is a prerequisite, although this is not essential.
授業概要		英語で自分の考えを書くことによって、世界中の人々にあなたの考えを知ってもらうことができます。しかし、文章で用いられる英語と日常会話で使われている英語とは違います。文章に用いられる英語は、より論理的で明快でなければなりません。特にテクニカル・ライティング、つまり技術文書を作成する際には、最大の効果をあげるために、相手を納得させることのできる、自信に満ちた書き方をすることが重要です。これは技術文書や学術論文を作成するときだけでなく、グローバル化が進む世界において企業で働く際にも重要なスキルです。 「レトリック２」では、学術論文、博士論文の作成ばかりでなく、国際会議でのポスターセッションを念頭に置いて、わかりやすく論理的な文章を作成するための実践的な技術を学びます。また、よく出会う状況に応用可能ないくつかの基本的な原則を学びます。例えば、学術論文の査読者に返事を書く際に、言葉を選んで自分の主張の強さをコントロールする方法などを学びます。 この授業は主に英語で行います。ぜひ、ご参加下さい。  Writing in English gives you the opportunity to spread your ideas throughout the world. However, technical writing is different from the English we use in ordinary conversation. To have the greatest impact it is important to write convincingly and with confidence. In order to do this, one must be able to write logically and clearly. This is important not only for technical and research writing, but also in companies in our increasingly globalised world. In Rhetoric 2, keeping in mind scientific manuscripts and doctoral theses as well as international conference poster sessions, we study practical steps to creating logical texts. We will study fundamental principles based on common situations. For example, choosing words to control the strength of statements when replying to a manuscript reviewer. This class will be primarily in English. I look forward to seeing you in class.
