Micro-meteorology covers the basic components and processes that govern the micro-scale climate system in urban area, which is deeply related to our life. The main focus will be on the physical and dynamic processes in the urban atmospheric boundary layer and earth surfaces with various material and geometry. Course topics include not only the basic physical concepts of earth energy balance and atmospheric turbulence, but also artificial climate phenomena, such as urban heat island, pollutant dispersion and global warming issue. In addition, various vernacular designs of cities and architectures are introduced to discuss how human have struggled to survive in natural environment and how they have modified surrounding environment from a viewpoint of physics.
