英語ディベート集中講義です。授業はすべて英語で行います。

This is an introductory course on “Policy Debate” -- a type of academic (educational) debate in which analysis and research are emphasized as well as oral communication. The course is taught by Dr. Joseph Zompetti and Ms. Shanna Carlson (both from Illinois State University). Participants will not only learn the theory of debate but also make up teams to prepare for competitive debate rounds. The topic for the debate is:
Resolved: The Japanese government should adopt a social security system that provides a basic income to all Japanese citizens.

授業以外での学習にあたって

Students will be assigned to read a debate textbook and articles about the topic of the debates.
Students will write speech manuscripts during the course.
Students will write a mini-research paper about the topic of the debates. (This paper will be based on the research before and during the course.)

You will find research packet (collection of articles) about the "Basic Income" topic. You do not need to read them all but browse them so that you may know what articles are in the packet. The instructors will explain how to use them in the course.
